Sure Start Alumwell Pleck Children’s Centre aim to provide a confidential, culturally sensitive family support service.
What is Family Support?
Family Support is a process which seeks to strengthen families and communities and aims to foster the best possible development of children and family members and their quality of life (in terms developing their social, intellectual physical and emotional well being).
Our Family Support Service is community based and needs driven. It facilitates working between agencies and seeks to preventative, responsive, flexible, focused and holistic. Family support is all about putting children and families first and empowering them to realise their potential.
What can we offer?
A variety of service can be accessed and we aim to enhance these services with contributions from parents/ carers and through joint working with local services. Our aim is to identify, as early as possible, children and families in need of support and the following services are currently available.

Home-visiting
This service offers assistance within the family home (such as increasing social support, breast feeding support, promoting stimulating play in the home etc.) Family Support Workers can also work with other professionals (such as health visitors) to ensure that what is required can be put into practice.
Ante-Natal / Post Natal Contact & Support
We work with Health Visitors and other professionals to ensure that parents and parents-to-be get introductory information about Sure Start Alumwell Pleck Children’s Centre. Families are registered with our programme within the first two months of their child’s birth and a request for a family support can be taken at this stage required. We aim to promote advice on positive parenting, healthy lifestyles, breast feeding, stopping smoking, welfare etc.
Practical Support and Advice
This service works on an empowerment model (doing with rather than for the family). Family Support Workers work alongside parents / carers to establish routines in the home and also provide information.
Crisis Intervention / Respite
These services can be provided in an emergency or as part of a wider package of support in partnership with other agencies, such as Social Services, Health and Education Services etc).w Cost Child Safety Equipment Scheme
Low cost safety equipment scheme
Families can access low cost stair-gates and fireguards and other safety items through this scheme. The scheme is measured depending on income/benefits.
Information Drop-ins
Citizens Advice Bereau Drop-in - Every Thursday 10:00am - 1:00pm and 2:00pm - 4:00pm At St Johns Church Hall, Scarborough Road Pleck
Free independant, confidentila and impartial advice and signposting for any issues that you need help with. The Citizens Advice Bureau drop-in has been set up to give Alumwell Pleck parents a local venue to seek independant advice and get help with most issues and problems. Sure Start Alumwell Pleck also run regular immigration and benefits drop ins in local venues, which are advertised in the monthly news letter.
