Understanding Your Child’s Behaviour
How to manage your child’s behaviour. A group that runs over seven weeks to show you how to discourage bad behaviour and encourage good behaviour. Parents who attend all seven sessions receive a certificate. Also a useful starter course for those who wish work with children.
You and Your Child
A parent interest group, practical parenting and information and advice on the topics that parents want to know about. Also a chance to have your say about Sure Start services and what you like and don’t like.
Grow a happy toddler
A single session behaviour management workshop for parents with young children. Looks at ways to improve behaviour and communications and bonding between parent and child.
Baby Massage
Baby massage encourages bonding and communication, helps baby gain body awareness and co-ordination, helps baby cope with colic, constipation and teething, helps parents with post natal depression and much more! Runs weekly at the Sure Start Centre.
Makaton - Baby sign courses starting regularly
A really amazing way of communicating with your baby. Babies can learn signs a long time before they develop their speech and language, meaning that baby can learn to talk to you and tell you what they want and need. This prevents frustration and tantrums.
Surviving Parenting
A six week set of sessions that aims to help parents through the main development stages and problem areas. The sessions are Food Time, Sleep problems, Child behaviour, Toileting, Play and Learning and Talking Tots. Parents can book all six sessions or come to those they feel are relevant to them. Learning and Careers
Computers and IT Class
Beginners welcome at the computer course that teaches basic skills from typing to tables, spreadsheets and graphs. Learn as a hobby or increase your career prospects with this accredited course from the College of Continuing Education. Classes run weekly at the Sure Start Centre. Call us for more details.
Foundation Stage Food Hygiene Certificate
Those who attend all four sessions of this course will gain a qualification and a certificate in basic food hygiene. All parents and carers will benefit from this course that shows you how to reduce the risk of infection and disease to homes and families. The course is also ideal for anyone wishing to start a career in food or catering. Courses run regularly in the year, Call us for more details.
Baby and Child First Aid Certificates
A useful couorse for parents and carers to learn about first aid for children and what to do in emergency situatuions. Those who attend all four sessions will gain a qualification and certificate. This will also be useful for anyone wishing to start a career working with children. Courses run regularly in the year, call us for more details.
English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)
A group for parents and carers whose first language is not English and wishes to learn or improve English speaking and writing. Will improve the use and understanding of tEnglish, and is useful for everyone who does not speak English and especially those who wish to start a career or training and find language a barrier.
Basic Skills Course
Improve your reading, writing and maths and gain a qualification. This useful course is ideal for anyone who struggles in one of these areas or who wants to start a college, training course or job where basic skills are a requirement.
Just the job - Careers advice drop-in
A weekly drop-in with Vina to help you get careers advice, how and where to train, finding and affording childcare, help with benefits advice and guidence in finding and applying for jobs. Just drop-in every Wednesday 1pm to 3pm at the Sure Start Centre.
